 About Me

Christine GiererChristne Gierer Hey -- Here's a smidgen about me.  I've been making jewelry for over 7 years (probably more really, I've been making jewelry off and on since my teens, but I've been cong collage and torch work, silversmithing, found objects, altered art, polymer clay, glass beads, semiprecious gemstones, metal patinas, and just about everything else.

I've been helping people learn jewelry making techniques online since 2007.  This is the first of my in-depth publications.

Here's my background -- I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Visual Arts and Sociology from the University of Ottawa-- and I've been a corporate purchasing agent in manufacturing, and more recently I was a mental health worker and life skills trainer in the human services field.   Now, I teach and write about jewelry making so I can be home with my children.

When I'm not writing or experimenting with materials like a mad scientist, I'm doing stay-at-home mommy stuff for my family.  I might be doing the hated dishes, playing with my kids, arranging playdates with other kids, and wiping up sopping messes.

Or I might be rushing out to pick up or drop off a kid or 3 to school, probably about 2 minutes later than I should.  My two children Zoe and Edgar, ages 5 and 3, I'm sure, will appreciate me one day (probably after they have their own children bossing them around). My loving and supportive husband Christopher, thankfully, appreciates me already.  As I do him!

I also publish a popular free email newsletter called “I’m Making Jewelry in My Jam Jams” at my website How-toMake-Jewelry.com.
